The “Vienna International Music Competition” has been designed to promote musicians of all ages and disciplines. Vienna is universally considered the capital city for classical music, and many prizes will be awarded: performances at the prestigious MUSIKVEREIN Concert Hall in Vienna, cash prizes, 5 music albums, a CD recording prize and many special awards.

 The "6th Vienna International Music Competition" has been designed as an ONLINE COMPETITION: the selection is entirely made through video recordings.

Winners' concerts in Vienna at

on Saturday, 19 April 2025 (Brahms Saal)

At least 10 musicians will perform at the winners' concert

- CASH PRIZES: each of the winners of the First Great Awards will receive a cash prize (professional fee) for the concerts at Musikverein (Vienna), diploma + trophy. Music professors will receive a diploma as well.

- MARKETING AND PUBLICITY: a promotional campaign will promote the winners' concerts. International critics, music promoters and managers will be invited. 

- SPECIAL DIPLOMAS: at least 30 Golden and Silver medalsoffered to musicians who possess outstanding talent.

5 Special Awards:

BAROQUE MUSIC PRIZE: music works from 1600 to 1750

CLASSICAL MUSIC PRIZE: music works from 1750 to 1820

ROMANTIC MUSIC PRIZE: music works from 1820 to 1900

IMPRESSIONISM / MODERN MUSIC PRIZE: music works from 1900 to 1970

CONTEMPORARY MUSIC PRIZE: music works from 1970 to 2025

 

- CD Recording Award:

All costs covered (recording, edition, fabrication, distribution).

The CD will be released through the prestigious label ORPHEUS:

- 5 MUSIC ALBUMS:

Distributed worldwide by an international label and released through streaming platforms  (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, etc.). 

- CASH PRIZES: each of the winners of the 5 Special Prizes will receive a cash prize

- SPECIAL DIPLOMAS: Golden and Silver medals, offered to musicians who possess

outstanding talent.

REGULAtIONS: ONLINE application

Musicians are to register before the application deadline (10 FEBRUARY 2025), by using the online form (ONLINE APPLICATION in the main menu), and following these steps:

- The relevant fields of the online form should be filled out.

- It is possible to apply for one category (first or second) or for both categories (first and second).

FIRST CATEGORY (Winners' Concert in Vienna at Musikverein)

SECOND CATEGORY (Special Awards, Music Albums)

- A brief biography (no more than 500 words) should be submitted, highlighting the musician's main achievements and musical training (schools). 

- Musicians should send the LINKS of the video recordings chosen to apply (via Youtube, Vimeo, Youku, Google Drive, etc.). The repertoire is FREE. The same links to the video recordings can be sent to apply for both categories (concert in Vienna at Musikverein and Special Awards). It is also possible to apply for both categories with different videos, which will be evaluated independently by a different pannel of judges. 

- For the First Category (Concert at Musikverein), applicants must select the appropriate group (the Age Cuott Date is the 1st of April 2025): 

JUNIOR: instrumentalists and singers, YOUNGER than 16

YOUNG ARTIST: instrumentalists and singers, 16 to 22 years old

VIRTUOSO: instrumentalists and singers, 23 to 29 years old

PROFESSIONAL: instrumentalists and singers, 30 years and older, (NO AGE LIMIT)

CHAMBER MUSIC: ensembles of ALL AGES

COMPOSITION: composers of ALL AGES

*Note for Chamber Music: The application form must be filled by one member of the Chamber Music ensemble with his/her personal data. Additionally, he/she must specify on the form the name, age, instrument and email of the other members of the Chamber Music ensemble.

*Notes for Composers: Composers should specify the title, instrumentation (for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 instruments) and duration of the piece they have composed. The piece must be composed after 2010 and the composer must be the unique author. The duration should not exceed 20 minutes. Additionally, composers should specify if they prefer to perform the piece by themselves at Musikverein, to propose the performer(s), or that the organization provides the performer(s) for the winners' concert. Composers should include in the application form the link to the video recording or the audio recording, and the score (uploaded PDF file). Composers can apply both for the 1st category (Winners' Concert at Musikverein), and the second category (Special Awards) under the "Contemporary Music" section.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS FOR 1st CATEGORY (CONCERT at MUSIKVEREIN)

Applicants for the first category (Winners' Concert in Vienna at Musikverein) should submit 1 to 3 links to video recordings (Youtube, Vimeo, Youku, etc.). The repertoire is FREE. Ideally, we advise that the total duration (all videos together) does not exceed the following durations:

ADVISED MAXIMUM DURATION (all videos together):

JUNIOR (instrumentalists and singers): max. 15 minutes

YOUNG ARTIST (instrumentalists and singers): max. 20 minutes

VIRTUOSO (instrumentalists and singers): max. 25 minutes

PROFESSIONAL (instrumentalists and singers): max. 30 minutes

CHAMBER MUSIC: max. 30 minutes

COMPOSITION: max. 20 minutes

 

The total duration (all videos together) can be shorter or longer than the specified durations. If the total duration is longer, the specified durations (first minutes) for each age group will be evaluated.

The videos can be the same as or different from the pieces proposed for the concert at MUSIKVEREIN. Videos of solo pieces and concertos with orchestra or piano accompaniment are acceptable, as well as individual movements of sonatas and concertos. String performers, singers and wind performers can send repertoire for duos with piano. The videos may be the same as or different from those used for applying for the 2nd category. The two categories will be judged separately by different pannels.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS FOR 2nd CATEGORY (SPECIAL AWARDS)

Musicians should choose the Special Award(s) they want to apply for.  

It is possible to apply for only 1 or several special prizes (2, 3, 4 or 5).  Applicants should send only 1 video recording for each special music award, respecting the year of composition from the list below (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern/Impressionism, Contemporary). The total duration of each video should not exceed 15 minutes. In case the videos are longer, the 15 first minutes will be evaluated. Videos of solo pieces and concertos with orchestra or piano accompaniment are acceptable, as well as individual movements of sonatas and concertos. String performers, singers and wind performers can send repertoire for duos with piano. Chamber Music ensembles should specify the name of each member. The same videos can be used for applying for the 1st category as well.

BAROQUE MUSIC PRIZE: pieces composed between 1600 and 1750

CLASSICAL MUSIC PRIZE: pieces composed between 1750 and 1820

ROMANTIC MUSIC PRIZE: pieces composed between 1820 and 1900

MODERN MUSIC / IMPRESSIONISM PRIZE: pieces composed between 1900 and 1970

CONTEMPORARY MUSIC PRIZE: pieces composed between 1970 and 2024

REPERTOIRE for the WINNERS' CONCERT at MUSIKVEREIN (1st Category)

Applicants are encouraged to propose 1, 2, or 3 pieces to be performed at the winners' concert. FREE repertoire. The total duration should not exceed 15 minutes. The repertoire proposal can be changed at a later stage.

Pianists should propose pieces for piano solo. String players, singers and wind performers can choose pieces with piano accompaniment or solo repertoire. The organization will provide an accompanist for the Winners' Concerts.

REPERTOIRE for the MUSIC ALBUMS - Special Awards (2nd Category)

Musicians should specify the repertoire they would like to include in the digital album:

15 to 70 min (total duration). FREE repertoire. It can be changed at a later stage.

AWARD PUBLICATION

- Winners' names will be published on 20 MARCH 2025 on the “Vienna International Music Competition” website: (www.viennacompetition.com). Each participant will be contacted individually by the organization by email, and informed about the official results.

- The Winners' concert at Musikverein in Vienna will take place on Saturday, 19 APRIL 2024.

- International Jury: The audition for the jury will be evaluated through the video materials presented by each participant. A panel of international judges will evaluate the video material submitted, and the final selections of winners will be based solely on the video recordings submitted. Judges are independent, and their students are not permitted to participate in the competition. The judges' votes will be strictly confidential, and will nor be shared nor published.

- By submitting an application, the musician accepts the conditions of application.
